

Location
The City of Caliente is located in southeastern Nevada approximately 150 miles north of Las Vegas via U.S. Hwy 93. Situated in Lincoln County, Caliente is readily accessible via truck and Union Pacific mainline railroad to many of the population centers in the growing southwestern United States.
Founded as a railroad town, the City of Caliente is a key commercial center to Lincoln County. The community includes a range of personal service and retail businesses. Numerous churches and civic groups afford active community involvement. A recently constructed elementary school provides excellent primary grade education while high-school students attend Lincoln County High School in the nearby community of Panaca. Schools in Lincoln County regularly rank near the top in various proficiency measures by the State of Nevada. The Grover C. Dils Medical Center, a full-service hospital, provides both in-patient and out-patient medical services.
Economy
Employment in Caliente is provided by various personal service and retail establishments, the Grover C. Dils Medical Center, the State of Nevada operated Caliente Youth Center, the City of Caliente, Union Pacific Railroad, the Bureau of Land Management and local industries including industrial mineral production, among others. Employed persons in Caliente commute from all areas of Lincoln County.
The 2004 Lincoln County Labor Market Survey (approximately 40 percent of all households responding) found that 236 County residents were unemployed with 66 of those actively seeking employment. The survey documented another 144 former County residents desiring to return to Lincoln County should employment opportunities become available.
Lincoln County has been designated as a U.S. Small Business Administration HubZone area. As such, firms located in the County may obtain preference when competing for federal contracts. The U.S. Air Force Nellis Training Range and the Department of Energys Nevada Test Site are partially located within Lincoln County.
The U.S. Census found that the median house value in Caliente during 2000 was $64,500. Median house values in Caliente and surrounding communities continue to be significantly below the Nevada state average. Opportunities exist in Caliente and surrounding areas to purchase single family homes, ranchettes and undeveloped acreage.
Meadow Valley Industrial Park
The City of Caliente has recently completed Phase I improvements to the Meadow Valley Industrial Park. The Park includes approximately 62 useable acres with direct access to U.S. Highway 93. The City will work with industrial clients to identify individual acreage needs. Future improvements will provide access to the adjacent Union Pacific Mainline Railroad. Meadow Valley Industrial Park is served by City water and sewer. In addition, the City of Caliente provides electrical service to the Park and 220 three-phase power is possible. Lease rates/terms are very favorable (significantly reduced from those in the Las Vegas metropolitan area) for industries creating employment and income opportunities for residents of the Caliente area.
